Family Visa in Qatar | How to get the family visa for wife and children in Qatar?
If you are reading this article, you are already in Qatar or received a job offer from Qatar or joined a company in Qatar. Welcome to Qatar!
Residents, who wish to bring their families to live in Qatar, can apply for a family visa for residence.
Before we proceed to the procedure and requirements for a family visa, you should aware that it’s impossible to get a residence permit in Qatar without an employment contract and also a local employer to act as a sponsor. Your employer must ensure your contract must be attested by the Ministry of Labour. Contracts should specify the job description, working hours, salary and also any other benefits that the employee is entitled to. The Arabic version of the employment contract governs employment and also business arrangements as per Qatari law.
Necessary documents to apply for a family visa:
- First and foremost, you must have a valid residence permit to apply for a family visa in Qatar. Take a copy of your Qatar Resident ID Card (QID)
- A Visa application form to be filled in from the typing Centre.
- NOC letter from your company (it is valid only for 3 months from the date of the letter)
- Employment Contract (If you’re working for a government or semi-government entity, you’ll need to present an official letter from your employer stating your profession and salary)
- Education Certificate attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of your country and also Qatar embassy in your country. Also, there are many private attestation companies in Qatar get this work done on your behalf.
- House Contract/Lease Agreement attested by the municipality (municipality shall require another set of documents like copy of the title, the copy of owner QID, layout, etc. for stamping)
- Electricity and Water Receipt in your name
- For Spouse: Marriage Certificate attested by MOFA of your country and also Qatar embassy in your country.
- If it’s not in English then translation must be attested by MOFA and also Qatar embassy in your country
- For Children: Child(s) Birth Certificate(s) attested by MOFA and also Qatar embassy in your country. If it’s not in English then translation must be attested by MOFA and also Qatar embassy in your country.
- Six Month Bank Statement with a minimum salary of QAR 10,000 per month (or QAR 7,000 if family housing is provided by your employer)
- Passport copy of the dependent (Wife / Children)
- In case of sponsoring adults, a certificate of “good conduct” attested by “relevant authorities.”
Submit the Family Visa Application:
- Submit the above documents in any of the Immigration offices and also collect acknowledgment which will carry Visa application number.
- You can check the status on https://www.moi.gov.qa/ after 2 days.
- In the above site, Choose Language. If you choose English, navigate to >> Home >> MOI Services >> Inquiries >> Visa Services >> Visa Approval Tracking
- Enter Application Number, Visa Type as “Residency”, Application Date and also QID Sponsor
If approved,
- If the visa is approved you will get a message on your mobile. Ensure that you have registered your mobile in METRASH. (METRASH is a service provided by MOI thru which all the message related to immigration will be received on your mobile)
- If the application is approved you can pay the fees at any service center showing the acknowledgment you got when you applied.
If rejected,
- Visit the immigration office and request a meeting with the visa approval committee.
- Take a copy of the receipt as they will keep the original receipt with them and give the copy on which they will mention the meeting date
- If there is no serious problem with your submitted documents after their scrutiny, you will be given an appointment date with the visa approval committee.
- The committee will ask you simple question like what is your qualification, what is your profession. This is simply asked to check how you communicate (Keep a set of documents you submitted and all the copies of your education certificates. They will not ask but it is good to keep it with you)
- They might ask you to check after three days. If everything is ok, you will get the approval on the very next day.
- If the visa is approved you will get a message on your mobile. Ensure that you have registered your mobile in METRASH
- If the application is approved you can pay the fees at any service center showing the acknowledgment you got when you applied
(METRASH is a service provided by MOI through which all the message related to immigration will be received on your mobile)
Procedure after approval:
- With the receipt visit the Medical commission at Mesaimeer
- Go to the female section (For your wife) and get her medical checkup
- Give your Debit card for the payment which will cost you Qr.100
- After which they will do the blood test and also X-ray (both sealed on your Receipt). Also, meet the Doctor to get the sign and seal, then they will enter the details in the system.
- Once the medical is approved you will get a message on your mobile. Ensure that you have registered your mobile in METRASH (METRASH is a service provided by MOI). Through METRASH all the message related to immigration will be received on your mobile.
- Once your medical is approved (sometimes it happens on the same day and sometimes within 2-3 days) you need to go to the Mesaimeer Immigration office and get your fingerprints registered.
Fingerprint registration for a family visa:
- The fingerprint section is outside the main office, near to the parking lot.
- Collect a form from the Men’s Fingerprint section (Only here you get the form)
- Your wife should go to the women’s fingerprint section and register fingerprint. It will take 2-3 days for the update.
- After 2-3 days, visit the Immigration office. Submit the filled for form with both your signatures to the respective counters where you will receive QID of your family members.
Follow the above procedures for family visa application, keep proper documents and also most importantly be patient. Wish you the best luck to bring in your family.

Hi. You can take them on a on arrival visa. However they cannot stay for more than 60 days and also you cannot transfer on arrival visa to any other type of visa. Best is for you to land in Qatar, then after couple of months once you get settled you can bring them on a visit visa and then convert in to family visa or apply for a family visa and then bring them to Qatar. I was recently completed entire Qatar recusancy permit process for my family. I e. For wife & infant. I would like to share my entire experience as follows.
1. I was visited Al gharafa immigration department with application and all supporting documents on 03/Dec/2019. Captain simply refused my application because of manual applications no more taking for any kind of family visas.
2. I was applied family RP application through metrash2 on 04/12/2019. Application was rejected after 7 working days due to ” sponsor does not meet the conditions”. I visited gharafa immigration department and checked with police at reception. They ask me to change my designation from Foreman to any other professional designation. (During this visit they have cancelled my old application)
3. I was obtained profession change letter from my company and submitted at gharafa gate-1 first floor. They reviewed and signed on my application. After that I was moved to gate-3 for collecting new QID with latest profession.
4. Again my family RP application submitted through metrash2. After 7 working days application status changed to Under review from under process.
5. Again my application rejected after 7 working days. This time status changed from under review to rejected. The comments mentioned by immigration is ” REFER TO IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT”.
6. I was visited gharafa and discussed with police at reception. He checked data in system and physically verified my documents. Then he took few minutes time for discussing with captain and status changed to under process from rejected.
7. After 5 working days wife application status changed to under review from under process. My infant application approved at the same time. I requested spelling correction through metrash2 for my daughter application. ( Typing error done by immigration).
9. Next day itself my wife application approved and name correction also completed for infant.
10. Payment done through metrash2. Application status changed to valid to use.
11. Took printout of VISA then bring family to Qatar. Now VISA status changed to inside the country.
12. Next day I was visited to Abu humour medical commission for medical. They told infants not required medical. Then I finished Medical for my wife. Same day I received message from medical commission i.e. medical is okay for the perticular person.
13. I was prepared finger prints application for my wife and infant. ( For children’s manual application need to be prepare from any typing center)
14. Next day I finished finger prints section at mesaimeer MOI for wife. (For children’s finger prints not required).
15. After few minutes I received message for okay finger prints. Then same time I was visited MOI Mesaimeer for New QID collection. Finally I received QID for my family.
Note: most of the times blood group certificate need to be submitted at the time of QID collection.
16. Next day I visited my health center with my QID, House aggrement copy and latest electricity bill. After paying 100QR immediately they issued new health card for family.
17. Next day I visited health center for obtaining qatar vaccine book for my infant. They verified infant health card and collected previous vaccine history from me.
18. Within few minutes they issued vaccine book then reserved an appointment for next vaccination.
That’s it all over….

Last Monday (16-Dec-19), we went to Al Garaffa Immigration to submit manually all the required documents for converting the Family visit visa to a Family RP visa.
Now, the immigration rule has changed since family visas will only be applied through metrash2 and no manual documentation is needed at the immigration office.
Please share your experience on how to apply through metrash2. I need some assistance for converting the existing Family visit visa of my wife and son to a Family RP visa.

There is no option to upload the tenancy agreement. In the other documents I uploaded NOC from company, which states that the accommodation is provided by the company.

I applied on 12/12/2019 still under process. Already visited to Garaffa office told me to wait for 1 more week. Does it take almost 3 weeks to get their answer? Regarding the tenancy contract, there is no option on metrash2 to upload how do we provide them since they will no longer accept papers on the office? Hi. Good to cancel and send them back if you do not have any plans to bring them. However, if you do not cancel and if they don’t come back to Qatar within 6 months from the date of exit, their visa will get cancelled automatically.

Hi. Staying together is not a problem. Both have a visa and eligible to work in this case. At a later stage if they want to take their Kids to Qatar as a resident, their salary is not enough to bring them.

You can go on family visit visa once she get a RP(Resident Permit) that you can keep extends t max upto 6 months, other wise you can only visit on arrival visa for 30 days.

Hi. Is it on arrival tourist visa or family visit visa? Family visit visa can be extended for up to 6 months and then you can extend it for another 15 days also. But there is no grace period. If you exit after expiry you got to pay QR 200 per day. Don’t do that. Either exit or extend the visa.

Hi. Usually, if the QID holder did not visit within 6 months you have an option to pay QR 500 and renew their visa. In your case, QID is expired and so they would be told to reapply. It is the same procedure to get the visa done.

Several times i checked thru net but it shows only application under review after 12 days status was shows deffred then i went to imigiration office they as for new bank satamnets then i submit on 13th June from that day to till date still status shows application under review…How many days take time for visa approval ? Hi. Sorry about that. The only option is to follow with the visa application center. Try to meet the Captain again and explain the situation. Better to avoid going in the morning as they will not enough time to talk when a lot of people wait to meet the captain. Good to go around 11 am or 12 Noon when not much of rush and you will get time to speak to the captain. He may assist you.
When you visit, take one more copy of the bank statement which you submitted earlier. If possible, take your family (applicants) along with you.
Question: Does your salary statement has 6-month salary credit with a minimum salary of QR 10000 and duly signed and stamped by your Bank.

Hi. Usually when you convert from a visit to permanent resident visa. Type of visa could show as not valid if you check in resident visa status. As per your message we understand that it shows “Deferred”. In this case, you need to visit the office where you applied for your resident visa and check at the counter or try to meet the captain. Most probably there is some problem with your document and they cannot process. Check and let us know if you have any further query. Good Luck.

Dear Saheba, during EID holidays, only if there is an emergency they will process. Otherwise, they will not work on a new resident or visit visas until the end of EID. It is up to you to decide how you use it : as a visit visa by paying 200 QAR every month for 6 months or convert to RP with in a month to consider as residence visa.

But, internally my title has been change to Sr. Production Foreman with total salary above 10000 QR.

I have a question about changing profession in QID, recently i have applied for family visa and the status now is showing as “deferred”. Upon inquiring with MOI they told me that my profession is “Mandoob” hence im not entitled for a family visa even though i meet all the requirements sch as salary and other documents.
How can i change my profession in QID, as they said i have to at least change it to “Mandoob Mubiat” or “Idaari (Adminstartor) or as a supervisor.

The original if we want to attest , we have to send home country and attested from their , it takes little more time

There are many agencies in Qatar who does this attestation services and usually, they give the certificates in a week. They will get attestation from India and Qatar. Good to go through them as they get all the attestations just in a week.

Hi. As per the legal terms, partitioned houses inside a villa is not considered as a legally rented property. That is the reason, the company or the person who rent this house pay the full bill and include an amount as a part of the rent. So you cannot apply with that. Requirements for applying visa for wife:
– Copy of personal ID or passport of the resident husband
– Letter from husband’s employer citing profession and salary
– Copy of attested marriage contract
– Copy of wife’s valid passport
Requirements for applying visa for other relatives (Father, mother, sister, children and in-laws):
– Copy of personal ID or passport of the sponsor.
– Copy of sponsor’s wife’s passport with valid residence permit or residential tenancy contract.

Could you please tell me that the expats can able to change the sponsor and profession in QID? – Yes
How long it takes time to change? – It depends. You got to get NOC from the current sponsor and new sponsor will apply for transfer. It should happen in a week or 10 days.
When I work in the country, another employer can apply for my new job in Qatar or I should leave the country for taking a new job? – You can transfer being inside the country itself. Visa can be transferred being inside. No need to exit.
If I canceled from an old company, how much time to come back to Qatar in a new visa? – Once it is canceled. The new company can apply for a visa immediately if you get a NOC from current sponsor.
If I come back in new visa, what would happen to my driving license and bank accounts that all merged with old qid? – No need to worry about driving license. It will remain as it is and valid. The bank account will be blocked if you have a loan. However, once you come inside the country you can update the bank with new QID and it will be released.
Then how long it takes me to bring my family in Qatar? – Nowadays, family visa gets approved in less than a week. Once you have their visa, they can come in. But for an apply family resident visa, you need 3-6 months bank statement. So good to bring them immediately on visit visa and then transfer to family resident visa.

My name is Juan Nobile, already resident in Qatar and planning to bring my family. They are from Colombia, but there is no Colombian Embassy here in Qatar nor Qatar Embassy in Colombia.
I have tried different embassies but they say they are not allowed to do it for Colombia.
So my question is: what can I do in this case? How can I attest documents for a country which does not have embassy here in Qatar?
