“Weyak” Psychological Tele-Counselling Service:

What:  A safe space where adults who are feeling distressed, stressed or low can speak to a counsellor that can provide support/psycho-social education/ signpost to additional resources in Qatar.

Who: Free tele counselling service for all Qatari residents and citizens. Service is accessible in 7 languages (English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Malayalam, Philipino).

Why: When people go through stress, depression or anxiety they tend to turn to family and friends (who aren’t trained in thorough support) or alternatively retreat and suffer in silence. Tele-counselling service is there for people who feel alone.

Where: Tele-counselling service is confidential, you just call a support line which is favourable condition if you are feeling hesitant or unmotivated.

Qatar National Library (QNL) reopens to the public from today, 15 July 2020

Qatar National Library (QNL) reopens to the public from today, 15 July 2020. Both members and non-members can access QNL from Wednesday with limited services, hours and capacity. Phase 2 of the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions implemented in Qatar from 1st of July 2020 as per the initial plan decided by The Supreme Committee for Crisis Management. As a part of the Phase 2, Qatar has decided reopening of parks, beaches, restaurants in several areas, museums and heritage sites.

QNL  the safety of public and QNL staff, library reopens with all measures in place in line with recommendations from the Qatar Ministry of Public Health and the World Health Organization.

Following precautionary measures has been stated on Qatar National Library website which you need to know:

  • By Appointment: You can visit library only with a prior appointment
  • Time Slots: Two time slots are available from Sunday to Thursday – 9:00 – 11:00 AM or 12:00 – 2:00 PM
  • Book your appointment online – https://registration.qnl.qa/booking-service
  • Maximum of 100 people only will be allowed inside the library for each time slot
  • Green status on the Ehteraz app: You are allowed inside only if you have Green status on the Ehteraz app
  • Temperature will be checked at entry
  • Entry not allowed without a face mask or a shield. Also you should wear it all the times when you are inside
  • Allowed age: Ages from 13 to 60 only are permitted entry
  • 48 hours advance booking through email required to collect books. DVD’s, CDs or electronic equipment will not be allowed.
  • Follow social distancing. Social gathering of more than 5 people are restricted and you will be monitored by QNL security
  • Until further notice Restaurant and Cafe are closed. However, Vending machines are available in the Quiet study room
  • Drive-Thru Book Return Station in front of the building or the bins that are available at the Library’s main entrance to return the borrowed items
  • Borrowed items will be renewed automatically until further notice

Qatar being successful at flattening the curve of COVID-19 cases entered in to Phase 2 of gradual lifiting of restrictions as per the plan.

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani chaired the regular cabinet meeting via video conferencing yesterday.

After the meeting, Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs His Excellency Dr. Isa bin Saad Al-Jafali Al-Nuaimi stated the following: At the beginning of meeting, Cabinet heard a presentation by Minister of Public Health on latest developments to contain Coronavirus ,Cabinet affirmed continued implementation of precautionary measures taken to combat this epidemic. The following were the other decisions made:

Cabinet decided to end working with its decision of closing shops and all commercial activity on Friday and Saturday of every week, and the decision goes into effect starting Thursday Jul. 9, 2020.

  • Cabinet approved draft decision from Minister of Administrative Development, Labor, and Social Affairs on determining the ratio of Qatari employees to non-Qatari employees in private sector, draft decision comes in implementation of provision of the labor law no. 14 of 2004.
  • The draft decision aims to raise the percentage of Qataris working at state-owned companies, or where the state is an investor to 60 percent. The decision also includes other authorities that are subject to the retirement and pensions law.
  • The draft decision also aims to raise the percentage of Qataris in human resources to 80 percent in these authorities.
  • The cabinet approved a draft law amending some provisions of decree law no. 11 of 2012 on government regulation of the buying and selling of chemical and petrochemical products that are produced in the State of Qatar.
  • The cabinet reviewed a report of the State of Qatar’s population in 2019, and the outcomes of a study by the permanent population committee and its remarks on the report. The cabinet then took the appropriate decisions regarding the matter.

We are in the digital age, but the telephone remains weapon of choice for scammers. Most of the cases, fraudulent callers pose as representatives of government agencies or famous telecom companies or travel companies. They give you always a very good news and a big news.

Unsolicited calls from people claiming to work for a government institution or a telecom or financial firms should be taken as warning signs. Usually, these companies and institutions will rarely call you unless they have first communicated by other means or you have contacted them.

Please beware of such fraudulent calls. Do not provide any details such as Passport Number, Bank Account Details and also other personal details.

Effective from Monday 16th March 2020, Dine-in at restaurants and cafes in Qatar has been banned. The Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MOCI) said in a tweet on Sunday as part of its efforts to control the transmission of  Coronavirus COVID-19.

This circular is regarding serving of food in restaurants and cafes. It has not suspended the service of the external requests for delivery and the delivery of takeaway request inside the store.

This is decision is being circulated in the context of the preventative and precautionary measure being undertaken by the State of Qatar to limit the transmission of the coronavirus COVID-19, to ensure the safety of all citizens and residents.

Everyone is required to abide by the above decision. All violations will be subject to applicable legal proceedings.

Covid-19: Union Health Ministry issues revised travel advisory

The Indian government issued a revised travel advisory for travelers from Covid-19 affected countries. Ministry has tightened the conditions for the new travelers from affected countries which includes Italy, Iran, South Korea and Japan with immediate effect. The revised advisory states,

In view of the emerging global scenarios regarding COVID19, in supersession of all earlier advisories, the following advisories are issued for immediate implementation:

  1. All regular (sticker) Visas/e-Visa (including VoA for Japan and South Korea) granted to nationals of Italy, Iran, South Korea, Japan and issued on or before 03.03.2020 and who have not yet entered India, stand suspended with immediate effect. Those requiring to travel to India due to compelling reasons may seek fresh visa from the nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate.
  2. Regular (sticker) visa/e-Visa granted to nationals of the People Republic of China, issued on or before 05.02.2020 were suspended earlier. It shall remain in force. Those needing to travel to India under compelling circumstances may apply for fresh visa to the nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate.
  3. Regular (sticker) visas/e-Visas granted to all foreign nationals who have travelled to Peoples Republic of China, Iran, Italy, South Korea and Japan on or after 01.02.2020, and who have not yet entered India stand suspended with immediate effect. Those requiring to travel to India under compelling circumstance may apply for fresh visa to nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate.
  4. Diplomats, official of UN and other International bodies, OCI cardholders and Aircrew from above countries are exempted from such restriction on entry. However, their medical screening is compulsory.
  5. Passengers of all international flights entering into India from any port are required to furnish duly filled self-declaration form (including personal particulars i.e. phone no. and address in India) and travel history, to Health Officials and Immigration officials at all ports.
  6. Passengers (foreign and India) other than those restricted, arriving directly or indirectly from China, South Korea, Japan, Iran, Italy, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, Singapore and Taiwan must undergo medical screening at port of entry.
  7. Indian citizens are advised to refrain from travel to China, Iran, Republic of Korea, Italy and advised to avoid non-essential travel to other COVID-19 affected countries.
